😊 Here below listed are the important aspects about Unit Seven.

I.Theme

Christmas is celebrated in many countries but the celebration varies from country to country. Millions of Americans have grown up with fond memories of Christmas trees, bulging stockings, gaily wrapped gifts, jolly old Santa Claus, or goose dinners, etc. Christians take the opportunity to honor the Lord Jesus Christ, the “little babe away in a manger”, and millions hear the oft-told tales of shepherds keeping watch in their fields by night, the Magi and the star, and the birth of the Christ child.

This piece is not only about Christmas. It is also about love. home, and tradition, which people throughout the world share and cherish. We can also easily feel his love for his folks and the harmony between nature and people. Although almost a century has elapsed, we still need these qualities and traditions to survive and prosper.

II. Writing Style

It is not an easy matter to manage clarity describing such a big event as Christmas. To achieve this the author uses the parallel pattern of “there are no such... any more” to tell the whole story, covering several aspects and features-traveling on the bobsled, cooking food in the kitchen, home-made Christmas, big dinner etc, of how his family celebrated Christmas many years ago in the1910s. The author also employs time order to describe the whole event from the departure, traveling on the country road, to the arrival: from cooking in the kitchen preparing for the meal to the prayer before it, and then dinner and activities after dinner. Through these ways the author gives us a very clearly organized article.

III. Implications

Nowadays Christmas is popular around the world. It is taken to be an occasion to extend blessings to the beloved ones, to send season greetings to faraway long-lost friends, or to donate to the underprivileged. Christmas has, indeed, become a time to express goodwill and gratefulness. Christmas is also a major commercial season, contributing handsomely to the annual sales volume. Shops are gaily decorated; promotion starts long before the holiday season; and millions plunge into the flood tide of shopping. For this reason, some argue that the traditions of Christmas are disappearing. Millions of gifts are given and received, but few would be handmade millions of dinners are held but few would be made from produce from one’s own garden and farm.

In today’s increasingly industrialized world, the Christmas celebration as depicted in the text is becoming rare and that is probably why this intimate account touches us all the more and remind us of tradition.
