The History of My Family
The Yuan Family has a time-honored history, which can date back to Ming dynasty. And Yuan Keli, who was in charge of the army at that time, is the ancestor of my family. When he retired, the emperor gave him a building to live in, which was located in ShangQiu, He Nan province. So most of his descendants distribute in He Nan province. Of course, I'm one of them.
In old days, there were four distinguished families in ShangQiu, including Tang Family, Wang Family, Yuan Family and Jiang Family. The building which my ancestor lived in is still there today. It is called ‘Yuan Jia Mountain’, which is one of the cultural heritages in He Nan province.
My grandpa told me that in old days the descendants would come here to worship their ancestor on April 14th every lunar year. Time passes by, however the custom still exists. And with the development of communication technology, many descendants who had been wandering away from home found their relatives and hometown. So my grandpa rewrote the Family Pedigree in 2005.
Looking back over thousands of years, my family have gone happiness as well as sorrow. But no matter what happened to us, we always keep in mind that we’re a family. And our young generations will work hard to make my family more and more powerful and strong.
