实践主题

Do some research on genius and common people and give your comments with proper evidence and reasons.

实践目标

1) To get further and updated information on the topic we discussed in this unit

2) To be able to sustain a long speech on a topic

实践任务

(1)Discuss your views with your friends or classmates.

(2)Use proper words and expressions to show your attitude.

实践要求

Write down what has come to your mind during your thinking and discussion, and organize them into a neat essay.

We know there are many talented young people, but few of them can make great achievements when they grow up. Why does this happen? What do you think about this issue? Talk about your opinion with some examples or sound reasoning. Firstly, Do some research on Geniuses’ growth and achievements and summarize the factors of their success. Secondly, describe the traits of those merely very good in your mind. Last, make a conclusion.

教师解析

Last week, I mainly took a research on genius and did a literature review about such the topic.

Genius, refers to people have a certain talent (that is, talent: not something you can learn), including outstanding creativity, imagination; natural qualifications of people (such as: physical; voice, etc.). Generally speaking, more than 140 are called geniuses or close to genius, and some scholars put the genius IQ standard 160 (sd15). There are someone can be called genius, like Issac Newton and Albert Einstein. Now let’s look at their lives.

When most people think of Isaac Newton, they think of him sitting under an apple tree watching an apple fall. Some people even believe the apple fell onto his head. Newton understood that what makes things like apples fall to the ground is a specific kind of force — the force we call gravity. Newton thought that gravity was the force of attraction between two objects, such as an apple and the earth. He also thought that an object with more matter exerted the same force on smaller objects as they exerted on it. That meant that the large mass of the earth pulled objects toward it. That is why the apple fell down instead of up, and why people do not float in the air.

Isaac Newton went on thinking about gravity. Before Newton, people thought that only objects near to the earth would fall down. But Newton thought that gravity should not just be limited to the earth and the objects on it. What if gravity went to the moon and beyond?

Newton invented a formula for calculating the force of attraction between two bodies. He used it to calculate the force needed to keep the moon moving around the earth. Then he compared it with the force that made the apple fall downward. After allowing for the fact that the moon is much farther from the earth, and has a much greater mass, he discovered that the forces were the same. The moon is held in an orbit around the earth by the pull of earth’s gravity.

The formula invented by Newton is called the Law of gravitation.

Besides, Newton built the first practical reflecting telescope in 1668; he also developed a theory of light based on the observation that a prism decomposes white light into the colors of the rainbow. Newton also shares credit with Gottfried Leibniz for the development of calculus. Newton’s ideas on light, motion, and gravity dominated physics for the next three centuries, until modified by Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity. Sir Isaac Newton was the first to discover the laws of gravitation and the laws of motion. He also established a new field in mathematics known as calculus, though the German Gottfried Leibniz had developed the ideas at the same time. His work has greatly contributed in the areas of science and mathematics making him one of the most influential scientists in human history.

The great physicist, Albert Einstein, thought that Newton's idea of gravity was not completely accurate. He corrected many of the things that Newton did. So, how is Einstein’s life?

It is no doubt that Einstein is a great physicist, He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921, but not for relativity. His theories of special and general relativity are of great importance to many branches of physics and astronomy. They have been given experimental confirmation by many experiments and observations. Einstein is well known for his theories about light, matter, gravity, space, and time. His most well known equation is E=mc².It means that energy and mass are different forms of the same thing. Einstein published more than 301 scientific papers and over 150 non-scientific works. He received honorary doctorate degrees in science, medicine and philosophy from many European and American universities.

“Genius is 99 percent sweat and 1 percent inspiration.” Einstein achieved great accomplishments, mainly because he was infinitely diligent and he met the requirements of the times, tirelessly explored and dared to innovate .Einstein is not only an infinite hard-working, he is a great scientist who is not bound by the traditional concepts, dares to break the restricted area and creates new ideas. He dared and good at breaking superstition, emancipating the mind, tireless exploration.

Generally speaking, they all achieved great success in human history, and push the world ahead, they both are curious about the world and asking more questions than common people. They enjoy the joy of living alone, but also enjoy the joy of social life. They like to have time alone to meet themselves and enrich themselves. And they are sensible to observe the world with a critical view. They have the wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong and not to classify what ordinary people use as an absolute dichotomy. And most importantly, they are highly focused on their work, and work hard, on the contrary, ordinary people lack the curiosity of the external world, and are easily affected by external factors, so it is difficult to have great achievements
